Rocío Guerrero
Rocío Guerrero Marín (b. 1991) is a multidisciplinary artist raised in Chile, and currently living in New York. She holds an MFA from Hunter College-CUNY, and a BFA from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. Her work has been shown at museums and galleries, standing out: CCU Gallery (2019), Chile; Museo de Arte Contemporáneo (2018), Chile; Bienal de Nuevos Medios (2018), Chile; YAP-CONSTRUCTO / MOMA PS1 (2014), Chile. Rocío Guerrero is a 2019 fellow FONDART, and resident at CasaPOLI 2015. Within her artistic practice, Rocío also works in the field of Art and Education.
Sobbing Water

The absence of happiness, the absence of nature, the absence of justice, the absence of absence, which is presence. My desire is to make these voids visible and sensible by connecting to and with others, from our intimate and collective life experiences, with empathy, and by sharing. Through a hybrid of sculpture, installation, and performance, I move within this tense in-between space, asking myself about that void, if it is possible for it to be filled, or if it is perhaps too big, or if it is perhaps too late.
I compose systems with poetic gestures that explore the affective relations and commonalities between bodies and environments through ideas of language, experience, and materiality. I am interested in how the relations we establish with others, human or not, affect our understanding of the world and sense of being. The work makes visible different bodily connections, including forces of nature: the wind, the sea, the desert, which challenge us to become absorbed with them, as we are all together matter, sharing ways of being vulnerable in the world. I make tools for communication to happen, objects that when activated, amplify experience: helping us to understand and share in transformative mediated situations.

Hunter MFA
This spring, the Hunter College MFA Program in Studio Art will graduate 26 artists who completed their degree over the challenging months of the COVID-19 pandemic. These talented MFA Thesis Candidates are exhibiting their work in six group exhibitions at 205 Hudson, in addition to this online spotlight hosted by Hauser & Wirth. At time when the public audience for in-person exhibitions has been limited by the pandemic, we are excited to provide this digital platform to the emerging artists from Hunter College’s MFA Program in Studio Art.
