As we come to the close of this year, it’s time to look back at the art, exhibitions and ideas that have shaped 2023—in our galleries and beyond. From welcoming new artists and opening new gallery locations to celebrating milestone exhibitions and outstanding publications. We are deeply grateful to our artists, visitors and partners who help us bring our visions and initiatives to life. Thank you for joining us in 2023.

Welcoming New Artists

This year, we welcomed new artists and artist estates to our family. We also proudly unveiled our ‘Collective Impact’ model, working with artists in partnership with other galleries.

In Loving Memory

We sadly also had to wish farewell to artists and friends dearly loved by us all. Their artistic contribution and legacy will be remembered.

IDA APPLEBROOG (1929 – 2023)

PHYLLIDA BARLOW (1944 – 2023)

In Our Galleries

This year, we celebrated more than 50 exhibitions by our critically acclaimed artists across our locations worldwide. In Somerset, we welcomed over 74,000 visitors to the exhibition ‘GRUPPENAUSSTELLUNG,’ a new attendance record set for the art center which celebrates it’s 10th anniversary in 2024.

In the Museums

In addition to their exhibitions in our galleries, we celebrated over 600 museum exhibitions with our artists in 2023.

In the news

From Menorca to Guangzhou to New York, our artists, exhibitions and galleries were not only the subject of articles by some of the most critical thinkers and relevant voices around the world but also featured on 29 covers in 2023.

Learning

More than 180,000 learners joined us in our galleries this year, engaging in a range of events, activities and education labs. We continue to partner with local charities and organizations to make a difference in our communities.

Hauser & Wirth Publishers

From artist writings to biographies to monographs, we released 11 new books in 2023. We celebrated the return of LA Art Book Fair and participated in Frankfurt Book Fair for the very first time.

Ursula Magazine

We published two new magazines including our first theme issue, devoted to contemporary poetry, and we collaborated with Takesada Matsutani on our first artist-made cover.

Conversation, Performance and Exchange

From intimate talks and book signings to large symposiums and conferences, this year you joined us for our lively program of events in our gallery locations and beyond.

More than 30 million of you connected with us on social media channels this year. Here were some of the posts that you liked, commented on and shared the most on Instagram.
