As part of Bruton’s annual, festive late night shopping, we are excited to open our residency studios at The Maltings and celebrate the work of our current artist-maker-in-residence Maria Sigma. Sigma is an award-winning designer and weaver specializing in ethical hand-woven textiles for interiors. Drop-in and find out more about her ‘zero waste’ designs and slow-making approach that focuses on raw, natural materials.
Since 2013, Hauser & Wirth Somerset has supported an immersive artist-in-residence program, providing artists with an extended period in Bruton to draw inspiration from the local community, rich cultural history and surrounding landscape. The residencies have no prescribed outcomes, but give artists time and space for reflection, research and production. The upper studios will present films from our recent 2021-22 artists-in-residence, Thomas J Price, Henry Taylor and Christina Quarles, as well as further information about the program.
Roth Bar & Grill will be providing festive treats in the courtyard throughout the evening.
Make Hauser & Wirth Somerset’s exhibition, ‘Rachel Scott. weaving my world’ will also remain open late at Stockwell House on Bruton High Street. The exhibition celebrates Scott’s vast creative output. This includes handwoven rugs, braided rag rugs, knitted patchwork covered chairs and cushions, bags, scarves, patchwork dresses, woollen suits, tea and chess sets, and early paintings dating from the 1960s.
The event is free to attend, with no need to book in advance. We look forward to welcoming new and familiar faces throughout the evening.
