Hauser & Wirth Learning is a key department, delivering robust learning and partnership activities across all of our locations, giving visibility to our philosophy, history and accessibility. The quality, creativity, and ambition of the gallery’s activities are at the forefront of arts education across the commercial and public sectors. The department focuses on developing global and local programmes with our learning communities, rolling out our philanthropist initiatives and partnerships, and working with our artists through residencies around the world.
The role of Associate Director, Learning is to support and develop our learning initiatives across our UK locations. A passionate advocate for learning, philanthropy, and access to arts, the role will focus on enhancing the contribution within each local community of education, philanthropic initiatives, and sustainability messaging, and building and rolling out inclusive learning programs that spark a dialogue between art, artists, and a diverse audience.
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
Develop the department in London & Somerset:
Articulate the mission and aim of the department
Build with the relevant departments, effective and engaging communications support to communicate the vision, the objectives, and the actions we are developing both to external and internal audiences
Represent the department both externally and internally, be the face of Hauser & Wirth Learning UK with various learning institutions and partners
Collaborate with Event Teams, Artist Teams, and Gallery Assistants to ensure the learning program is embedded into wider gallery activities
To manage all educational tours, activities and workshops for student, and community groups
Manage the local team and support them in connecting with the global vision
Create outstanding learning programmes:
Act as a key contributor and sounding board in our relationships with partners
Ensure local excellence and relevance as well as regional consistency of learning programmes and initiatives
Build an annual plan for learning programmes including budgets, calendars, working with partners and relevant events, including all programmes related to learning/education institutions, philanthropy, and sustainability
Define seasonal education programmes in each specific location, and train these locations in running events, and working on partnerships
Support internal education as and when alongside Internal Communications and People & Culture
Achieve excellence in the execution of our programmes:
Identify partners and resources required for all programmes, and manage the day to day relationships with them
Supervise the day to day delivery of all programmes
Supervise a network of learning teams on the ground including external partners/freelancers, and manage directly a Learning Coordinator and Assistant
Plan, organise and execute all events with the relevant resources and departments
Develop and measure qualitative and quantitative ways to reach excellence
Measure and enhance qualitative and quantitative development of the department:
Run a constant sound research on current trends in relevant communities
Be the leader of new ways of facilitating learning activities by identifying best practices in the field, and constantly redefining what excellent learning looks like
Create and report on key indicators of qualitative and quantitative success/impact
Required knowledge, skills and qualifications:
Significant experience in a similar role with learning communities
Sound understanding of philanthropy and partners
A knowledge of and passion for contemporary and modern arts
A track redord of educational programmes related to arts
Proven IT skills, particularly with Mac OS, Excel and Outlook
A proficiency in another European language is desirable
Highly developed interpersonal and oral and written communication skills required to liaise with a diverse range of internal and external personnel at all levels
Capable of thriving in a multi-disciplinary environment and collaborating with a large range of operational departments
Must be flexible, resourceful, and demonstrate excellent time management skills
Strong skills: diligent, critical thinking, problem-solving, teamwork and collaboration
Able to build rapport, trust and excellent working relationships with all colleagues in a dynamic work environment
Exceptional customer service skills and experience of managing high profile clients
