‘Remember Nature’ Residency with Dartington Arts School Returns to Somerset

From Monday 25 September – Friday 6 October, Hauser & Wirth Somerset will host a two-week residency for a second year with students from the Arts and Place MA course at Dartington Arts School. This year’s residents artists, Rosie May Jones and Liz Horn, will develop work responding to the theme of ‘Remember Nature,’ a project by artist and activist Gustav Metzger.  

The International Curatorial Residency Returns to Somerset

Following a series of three successful International Curatorial Residencies from 2017 – 2019, we are delighted to welcome a new group of global participants to the UK for the 2023 program from 10 – 15 September 2023. The week-long residency unites influential leaders in the field of artist residencies, drawing from private, public and artist-founded models. The residency program concludes with a public symposium on Friday 15 September, hosted at Hauser & Wirth Somerset and moderated by Hauser & Wirth Senior Curatorial Director Kate Fowle. The symposium will act as a forum for reflection and further dialogue on a broader scale. This event is open to all and donations will support our local charitable partner for 2023 – 2024.

Artists-in-Residence in Menorca

Curated by Oriol Fontdevila, the group exhibition ‘After the Mediterranean’ mobilizes collective narratives around the human and ecological crises that impact the region. Through their works, the artists introduce alternative accounts to those narratives—including a clock for the island in 12 pieces incorporating sand and a future landscape in which the effects of climate change give rise to an underground world.

‘Remember Nature’ Residency in Somerset with Dartington Arts School

During a two-week residency in Somerset, four students from the Arts and Place MA course at Dartington Arts School are invited to develop work responding to the theme of ‘Remember Nature,’ a project by artist and activist Gustav Metzger. The partnership launched in 2022 with the first cohort of students, including Raman Feiz, the recipient of the 2022 Gustav Metzger Scholarship, Imogen Mansfield, Emma Yorke and Mary Waltham. We look forward to welcoming new participants taking part in the 2023 residency this autumn.

Hauser & Wirth launches The Gustav Metzger Foundation Scholarship

We are proud to partner with Dartington Arts School by supporting a student on the ‘Arts and Place’ MA course, starting April 2022 until January 2023. The Gustav Metzger Foundation Scholarship will be eligible to a student with refugee status or have an application for asylum in the UK. The gallery’s support will include tuition fees for the one-year course, living expenses and associated residency location at Hauser & Wirth Somerset for two weeks. This unique collaboration is part of Hauser & Wirth’s ongoing commitment to providing opportunities for equal access to higher education, whilst working to establish meaningful connections that continue Gustav Metzger’s legacy and vision.

International Curatorial Residency 2019

Hauser & Wirth Somerset is delighted to announce the participants for the International Curatorial Residency 2019. The residency coincides with the exhibition ‘Unconscious Landscape. Works from the Ursula Hauser Collection’ and presents five curators who oversee international private collections. The programme will culminate in a public symposium entitled ‘Curating Private Art Collections’.

Exchange Residency: Hande Sever

Hande Sever was selected to participate in the 2018 Hauser & Wirth Exchange Residency Program at Bath School of Art & Design, Bath Spa. An artist and writer working across media and genres – video, performance, sculpture and photography – Sever was raised in Istanbul, and recently received an MFA from the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) in Valencia, CA. Informed by a research-based interdisciplinary process, her works often take up her family’s history of persecution to explore wide-ranging themes, including issues of exile, post-colonial identity, censorship, and cultural difference.
