Sojourner Truth Parsons’s (b. 1984 Vancouver, Canada; lives and works Brooklyn, NY) paintings are personal yet fictional moments, driven by a desire to translate the psychological and the affective into visual form. Bodies, flora, fauna and the city — the touchstones of daily existence — are anchoring forms in her practice; they are images that stand in for the emotional acuities and atmospheric intensities that occupy her time in the studio.
Solo exhibitions include: ‘My name is not Susan,’ Foxy Production, New York, NY (2022); ‘Milk river,’ Various Small Fires, Seoul, South Korea (2020); and ‘Holding Your Dog At Night,’ Oakville Galleries, Oakville, Canada (2007).
‘The New Bend’, curated by Legacy Russell, Executive Director & Chief Curator of The Kitchen, is on view until 8 May 2023.
