Inside her exhibition at our New York gallery, Anj Smith met with a group of young people from Culture for One, to talk about her new body of work. Set within ecologically devastated landscapes, the gorgeous but unsettling canvases in ‘Drifting Habitations’ challenge the notion of fixed locations and invite us to consider the fluidity of our experiences and perceptions of the world. Delving into the complex relationship between self and space, Smith’s luminous works question the very nature of our connections to the environments we inhabit.
The film is produced in partnership with Culture For One, a non-profit organization committed to improving the lives of New York City children and young adults living in foster care by providing them with arts opportunities and exposure to local cultural communities. ‘Getting to Know’ is a video series exploring the work and careers of the foremost artists of our time through the lens of creative students and community groups.
