On 4 February 2017, LA artist Richard Jackson, whose work seeks to extend the potential of paint through performative processes, engaged in a conversation with Italian conceptual artist Piero Golia, whose interest in the possibilities of theater contributed to the discourse of Jackson’s expressive painterly practice.
About the Artist
Richard Jackson was born in Sacramento, California in 1939. He first came to international attention with a major presentation of his installation works at the Menil Collection, Houston, in 1988, followed by the 1992 exhibition, ‘Helter Skelter’ at the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art. Since then, his work has featured in numerous group exhibitions including the 48th Venice Biennale (1999) and the fourth Lyon Biennale of Contemporary Art (1997), as well as ‘Iconoclash’ (2002) at ZKM, Karlsruhe and ‘Drawing in L.A.: The 1960s and 70s’ (2015) at Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA).
Recent solo exhibitions include ‘Richard Jackson – CAR WASH,’ held at the CAB Art Center, Brussels, Belgium (2014); touring retrospective ‘Richard Jackson. Ain’t Painting a Pain’, S.M.A.K., Ghent, Belgium, which was previously presented at Museum Villa Stuck, Munich, Germany and Orange County Museum of Art, Newport Beach CA in 2013; ‘Richard Jackson. Accidents in Abstract Painting’ (2012), at the Armory Center for the Arts, Pasadena CA, and ‘Richard Jackson. Collected Works’, Rennie Collection, Vancouver, Canada (2010)
