Hauser & Wirth is delighted to announce that Andrew Cunningham and Hande Sever have been selected to take part in the 2018 Hauser & Wirth Exchange Residency for post-MFA students.
This initiative, conceived by the gallery, is designed to support emerging artists affiliated with Bath Spa University and the California Institute for the Arts (CalArts) by offering locations to live and work for an intensive period of short-term residency in Los Angeles CA and Somerset, UK. The program which was launched in 2017, encourages independent work while also providing support through contact with academics, curators, and artists connected to the gallery. The residency aims to foster conditions for both reflection and spirited critical debate. Sever and Cunningham will be based at Bath School of Art & Design, Bath Spa University and California Institute for the Arts respectively for the duration of the program. Hauser & Wirth Somerset and Hauser & Wirth Los Angeles will support each residency and encourage opportunities for their local candidate to benefit from the activities at the gallery.
Hauser & Wirth Los Angeles is delighted to announce that Andrew Cunningham has been chosen to participate in the residency at CalArts this Summer. Cunningham’s work deals with the anticipation of transformation, movement and repetition as a procedural language to explore domesticity and alienation in relation to societal and environmental ecology. Hauser & Wirth Somerset is delighted to announce that Hande Sever has been chosen to participate in the residency at Bath School of Art & Design, Bath Spa. Artistic research constitutes the core of Sever’s practice and her works explore wide-ranging themes, including issues of exile, post-colonial identity, freedom, and cultural difference which unfold in different mediums, ranging from sculpture to performance, photography to sound.
