About the exhibition
‘Fabio Mauri. Amore Mio’ is a testament to the artist’s early engagement with themes that would come to define pop art, before the movement became widespread in Europe after US artist Robert Rauschenberg won the Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale in 1964. The 1964 Biennale marked a pivotal shift: artistic circles in Europe, particularly Italy, saw the arrival of American pop art as a sign of US expansionism, at a time where artists like Tano Festa, Fabio Mauri, Mimmo Rotella and Mario Schifano were already experimenting with similar ideas.

About the film
‘Fabio Mauri. Ritratto a Luce Solida’ recounts the artistic and intellectual path of pioneering post-war Italian artist Fabio Mauri. Personal interviews and material from the artist’s family archives offer a unique opportunity to delve deep into Mauri’s practice which encompasses performance, film, installation, found-object sculpture, mixed media works and theoretical writings. The voices and stories of Mauris colleagues, assistants, and friends, including curator Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev, artist Jannis Kounellis, writer Furio Colombo, partner Piera Leonetti and brother Achille Mauri make this documentary a compelling and intimate portrait of one of Italy’s most important post-war artists.

Directed by Andrea Bettinetti (2017, 52 minutes, Italian with English subtitles) and produced by Michele Bongiorno's Good Day Films, in collaboration with Studio Fabio Mauri and with the participation of the MADRE museum and Aliante Partners.
