On the occasion of Polish surrealist artist Erna Rosenstein’s first major presentation in Europe outside Poland, please join us for a guided tour of the exhibition with Adam Szymczyk.
About Adam Szymczyk Adam Szymczyk (born 1970 in Piotrków Trybunalski, Poland) is a curator and author based in Zurich, Switzerland.
He studied art history at the University of Warsaw and was a co-founder of the Foksal Gallery Foundation where he worked as a curator from 1997 to 2003. He was Director and Chief Curator of Kunsthalle Basel between 2003 and 2014 and then served as the Artistic Director of documenta 14 in Athens and Kassel between 2014 and 2017 (which included works by Erna Rosenstein, presented at the National Museum of Contemporary Art in Athens and the Neue Galerie in Kassel). At present, he is a Curator-at-Large at the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam. In 2022, he founded the Verein by Association, a non-profit association for contemporary arts and culture in Zurich.
Recent exhibitions projects include Wild Spoerri Rosenstein at Hotel am Brillantengrund, Vienna (2019), Yannis Tsarouchis: Dancing in Real Life at Wrightwood 659, Chicago IL (2021), Other Voices, Other Rooms at Criminal Investigation Department of Zurich Municipal Police (2021), and Life, Without Buildings at gta Exhibitions, the gallery of Institute of History and Theory of Architecture at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich (2022).
In 2011, he was the recipient of the Walter Hopps Award for Curatorial Achievement at the Menil Foundation in Houston.
