Join us in our Zurich bookshop on Thursday 12 September for this month’s Book Club, in collaboration with Zurich Art Club.
Hosted by artist Helen Waldburger, founder of Zurich Art Club, this month’s Book Club will discuss ‘Nicole Eisenman: Maker’s Muck,’ a recently released publication collecting seventeen responses by authors including Cyrus Dunham, Sheila Heti and Lynne Tillman to Eisenman’s monumental installation of the same name.
As well as speaking about Eisenman’s influence on her own work, Waldburger will show a selection of her ceramics and speak about Zurich Art Club, her Zurich-based studio where participants are invited to take part in curated sessions spanning painting, ceramics and photography.
Free to attend. Please email courtneymeier@hauserwirth to register your interest.

About ‘Nicole Eisenman: Maker’s Muck’
At the center of Eisenman's installation ‘Maker’s Muck,’ a plaster figure is seated at a potter’s wheel, surrounded by sculptures in various stages of formation. In this new publication, Eisenman invites seventeen authors to follow the trajectories of ‘Maker’s Muck’ and its many objects in essays, metafictional reflections and other experiments in interpretation.
A limited-release special edition, conceived in close collaboration with the artist, features a silkscreened linen jacket and hand-piped line of acrylic ‘muck’ along the spine.
About Zurich Art Club
Founded by Helen Waldburger, Zurich Art Club isn’t here to transform the uninspired into artists, but to remind people that creativity isn't something to ‘become,’ it’s something we’ve all forgotten how to access. It’s a space to slip out of the grip of productivity culture, where perfectionism is the dullest of all obsessions, and rediscover what it means to make—without the weight of outcome. Instead, making is a mode of self-exploration and reaching toward others, whether it’s through an artist’s hands or the pulse of a community workshop.
