Dawn Williams Boyd
Dawn Williams Boyd's (b. 1952, Neptune, NJ; lives and works in Atlanta, GA) self-described ‘cloth paintings’ masterfully reinterpret the traditional craft of quilt-making in a contemporary context. Utilizing historical references, current events, and religious tropes as narrative frameworks, her intricate textile compositions often chronicle seminal moments in African American history and quotidian scenes of Black American life.

Her solo exhibition of new works, ‘The Tip of the Iceberg,’ is on view at Fort Gansevoort in New York, NY through November 19, 2022. The traveling survey, ‘Dawn Williams Boyd: Woe,’ is on view at Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville, NY through December 4, 2022. This exhibition was previously presented at the Dodd Galleries at the University of Georgia, Athens, GA (2021) and the Everson Museum in Syracuse, NY (2022).
