We invite participants of all ages to join us for a hands-on, six-week series of community-building workshops, Community Lab: Threads of Connection, inspired by the exhibition, ‘The New Bend’ curated by Legacy Russell.
Celebrate the contemporary textile artists whose work will be on view and the community of Alabama women quilters of Gee’s Bend by participating in a free, safe, and creative intergenerational space to learn the art of quilt-making led by artist Mickey Lee Everett.
During the two-hour drop-in workshop, participants will be provided with fabric, thread and basic quilting supplies to make a hand-sewn and pieced 12 x 12-inch quilt block. Participants are invited to abstract and express different modes of cutting, stitching, splicing, remixing and drawing. To create your own fabric square, no prior experience necessary. Participants will be asked to donate their fabric blocks to the quilt project.
Workshops are free. All supplies and materials are provided, however you may bring cloths and/or fabric of your own to repurpose. Space is limited and RSVP is required. Register here.
