Family Studio Workshop: Straight Out of the Box

  • Sun 7 May 2017
  • 12pm

Join us for a hands-on Family Studio exploring themes of our current exhibition, ‘Jason Rhoades. Installations, 1994 – 2006’. About the Studio: Working with everyday items as art materials, families will come together to construct sculptures based on the immersive systems of Jason Rhoades. The work will have two stages of construction led by Julia M. Leonard. Store-bought, consumer products will be the basis for individual sculptures, which will then be incorporated into a final installation in our courtyard. Echoing Rhoades’ fascination with consumer culture, this workshop is designed to activate art’s power to transform the ‘stuff’ of our lives. About our Current Exhibition:Jason Rhoades. Installations, 1994 – 2006’ at Hauser & Wirth Los Angeles is conceived to share and celebrate Rhoades’ unwavering vision of the world as an infinite, corpulent, and lustful universe of expressive opportunity. Assertively pushing against the safety of cultural conventions, Rhoades broke accepted rules of public nicety and expanded the frontiers of artistic opportunity through unbridled, brazenly ‘Maximalist’ works. Comprised of six major works spanning the artist’s career, this exhibition constitutes a long-overdue, comprehensive survey in Rhoades’ adopted city. This event is free, however, advanced booking is essential as there are limited places. Click here to register.
