In Residence: Paul Desborough

  • 1 February – 30 September 2016

From February 2016, artist Paul Desborough will be in residence at The Maltings studios in Bruton.

Desborough’s paintings challenge our most basic assumptions about the nature of painting. Pushing the material properties of acrylic, his paintings eschew the conventional bond between medium and support, and in turn celebrate the physical materiality of the paint. Often site-specific, his work blurs the boundaries between sculpture and installation, exploring the formal limits of painting and its relationship to art historical canons.

Paul Desborough holds an MFA Fine Art from The Glasgow School of Art, Glasgow, Scotland (2005) and  BA from Wimbledon School of Art, London, England (1994-97). Recent exhibitions include; Anything & Nothing, Hardy Tree Gallery, London, England (2014), Private commission, Scotland (2013), Mis-heard Lyrics, Rebecca Camhi, Athens, Greece (2013), Hausler Contemporary, Munich, Germany (2011), Diving For Pearls, Morgen Strasse, Karlsruhe, Germany (2011), Teverina Fine Art, Lazio, Italy (2011), Lothringer 13, Munich, Germany (2010), Emmetropia, Hauser & Wirth, Swallow Street, London, England (2009), Experimental Arts Festival, Zbaszyn, Poland (2009), Plastic Side-Effects, Sassa Trulzsch, Berlin, Germany (2008), Centre Clark, Montreal, Canada (2006).
